Kindergarten — daycare centre for children, half-day/full-day, for children from 3 months to when they start school

Kindergarten

The children spend their days in age-appropriate and mixed groups of 8 to 12 children. A structured daily programme with child-oriented

activities, large bright rooms and our modern educational childcare principles ensure that the children feel happy in our daycare centre.

Our professionally trained staff create a good atmosphere that supports and stimulates the children, so that they can develop in an age-appropriate way and receive tailored support.

Pre- and after-school club — childcare for preschool and primary school children outside school hours

Pre- and after-school club

In the pre- and after-school club, preschool and primary school children are looked after outside of school hours.

This includes lunch, many play options and activities and a quiet environment to do homework. The children can use special rooms for that. During the school holidays, the St. Leonhard daycare centre offers all-day childcare including various age-appropriate activities.

Mittagstisch lunchtime club — childcare and meals in the daycare centre for primary school children on school days

“Mittagstisch” lunchtime club

Schoolchildren cannot always eat at home. But they must still eat a good and balanced meal on school days to stay healthy.

Many children who attend the daycare centre or children who used to come to us, as well as their parents, appreciate our well organised and reliable “Mittagstisch” lunchtime club. After lunch, the children are supervised and helped with their homework by our qualified staff.

Facts that speak for themselves

Education - the solid foundation of child development…

Our educational approach focuses on specific educational support and positive development.

We always taken into account individual needs. We aim for each child to be able to develop its specific personality and to be perceived in its entirety.

Safety - so that everyone can relax…

Your child is safe with us. The building and the outdoor area (playground) are tailored to the safety needs of the children and

our staff, and they are tested. We have our own specific safety concept and we use modern and safety-relevant measures to ensure that your child is safe. Come and visit us, have a look around and see for yourself.

Hygiene - giving dirt no chance…

Hygiene is important. In the building, in the play rooms, outside, in the kitchen and in the toilets and bathrooms.

Once a week all areas are thoroughly cleaned by a professional cleaning company. During the week, the schoolchildren who attend the “Mittagstisch” lunchtime club are responsible for cleaning and can top up their pocket money that way.

The kitchen – fresh and delicious meals…

The St. Leonhard daycare centre employs professional chefs.

We think that fresh, seasonal, balanced and healthy meals are important. Good food makes children happy and content, and keeps them healthy. The St. Leonhard daycare centre has a modern kitchen. Our children can watch how the food is prepared and what’s needed to make delicious food. Our meal plan tells you what your child will eat.

Staff – good childcare makes children strong…

The children are looked after by professionals who give them tailored support.

Our qualified staff are supported by trainees, interns and people doing civilian service. We are respectful and attentive in our dealings with each other and we promote a team spirit. We make sure that our staff also receive the support they need and are able to better themselves, and we promote their personal development - your child benefits from this approach.

Tradition and modernity — daycare centre + kindergarten

- working for children since 1 June 1889…

The St. Leonhard daycare centre was set up on 1 June 1889. You can find it at Socinstrasse 51, in a prime location in the Spalen district, a popular residential area in the city of Basel. It is easy to get to by public transport.

District kindergartens, schools and pretty town parks where children can play are all in close proximity and only a few minutes’ walk away. The daycare centre has the legal organisation of an association and is run by a management board. The association is independent, religiously and politically neutral, and private.  The St. Leonhard daycare centre is financed by subsidies from the Canton of Basel-Stadt, parental contributions, bequests and donations.
